The Story
Art and design are tangible.
The story of YW RUG starts with the drawings and paintings of Paola's grandmother, Yvonne. Yvonne was born 1905 and died 2003 and was during her life an active artist always creative with acrylic and watercolours, using distinct but also discreet colours in unequivocal combinations.
Yvonne Wennerholm (b. Tengbom) lived an exciting life amongst the Swedish cultural elite during the 20th Century. She was the oldest daughter of the architect Ivar Tengbom (1878-1968) and the sculptrice Hjordis Nordin whom Per Wastberg wrote about in his book, "Alice och Hjordis, Tva Systrar" (Wahlstrom & Widstrand, 1994). The year 1930 Yvonne married Eric Wennerholm and together they socialized in art circles with friends like the famous carpenter/ designer Carl Marlmsten, the singer Evert Taube and the author Willem Moberg. Eric Wennerholm also came to work closely with Marta Maas Fjetterstroms weaving atelier. After the death of the Creator Marta Maas Fjetterstrom, Eric together with a few others managed to save her heritage in a still prominent Swedish rug-company. Yet Yvonne's work was never realizable because the production costs were too high.
But times have changed and the techniques have been modernised, having made the creation of YW RUG possible for Yvonne's grandchild, Paola.
Paola's interest in textiles and design allowed her to see the potential in redesigning the paintings into rug patterns and interpreting the colour compositions into wool. With an interesting personal story behind it, the rug is not just a beautiful design but something unique and conceptual tangible to artwork. By finding the right Swedish producer Paola has closed the circle of Swedish cultural history, new Swedish design and created Swedish produce of highest quality.
